**, Bogota will be the first city in Colombia to have a neutral fiber optic network to be offered to the wholesale telecommunications market. - The transaction is subject to pre-evaluation by the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce.
Bogota, February 08, 2021 – In view of the great demand for telecommunications connections based on fiber optics, a technology that allows more than 300 megabytes of navigation, ETB* and UFINET** signed an agreement to create a partnership that will commercialize a neutral fiber optic network to the home for the wholesale telecommunications market in Bogota and its surrounding municipalities.
The network will start with an offer of more than 1,200,000 homes and the deployment plan is initially to double this figure, thus offering coverage in Bogotá-Region of close to 2,500,000 homes in a maximum period of 3 years.
The strategy will enable more families in Bogota-Region to have access to ultra broadband, including strata 1 and 2, especially in these times when lack of connectivity or low speeds mean fewer opportunities for study, work or entertainment.
The transaction is subject to pre-evaluation by the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce.
*ETB is the main telecommunications operator in Bogotá, whose majority shareholder is the Capital District. It provides a wide range of telecommunications services and is listed on the Colombian Stock Exchange.
